Pacing

  • 5 locations in 16 days with one 1-night stay

Physical requirements

  • Not appropriate for travelers using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids
  • Must be able to walk 5 miles unassisted and participate in 2-3 hour treks
  • Our activities include a 5.5-hour uphill hike (beginning at an altitude of 10,000 feet up to 11,600 feet) that includes 700 steps on Day 14
  • Must not have health conditions that preclude climbing to high altitudes
  • We reserve the right for Trip Experience Leaders to restrict participation, or in some circumstances send travelers home, if their limitations impact the group’s experience

Climate

  • Due to the varied geography of the destinations on this adventure, you will experience a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. For example, winter months (November-March) in places like Paro are below freezing while Punakha is generally in the 40-60 range (°F). Areas like Gangtey may even drop below 0 (°F) during the winter months.
  • Northern India experiences poor air quality in November and December, especially in Delhi.

Terrain & Transportation

  • Travel over city streets, and paved and unpaved roads that are bumpy and winding
  • Trek through foothills that can be steep and slippery; includes uneven ground and stairs
  • Travel overland in an air-conditioned coach and on a river raft in Punakha
  • Elevations up to 11,000 feet

Accommodations & Facilities

  • All accommodations feature private baths and Western-style toilet facilities
  • Outside of our accommodations, some public restrooms will be limited to Asian-style squat toilets
  • Rooms at some hotels in Bhutan are heated by bukharis, Bhutanese wood-fired stoves
  • Some lodgings of up to four stories do not have elevators
