While it prevents the sky from reaching total darkness, the “ring of fire produced by an annular eclipse is beautiful in its own right—but you must wear eclipse glasses to view it safely.
Ring of Fire: The Path of February’s Annular Eclipse
On February 6, 2027, parts of South America and Africa will look toward the sky as a unique solar eclipse passes overhead. Known as an annular eclipse, it occurs when the moon is too far from Earth to cover the sun completely, surrounding it in a brilliant “ring of fire.” For nearly eight minutes, the light will take on a quality that viewers often describe as “eerie” or “otherworldly,” while a fiery halo glows overhead.
While we can’t predict the weather or exactly when the narrow path of totality will coincide with our adventures, the following departures offer the best chance to view at least a partial eclipse in Chile, Argentina, Zambia, or Tanzania on February 6, 2027. As with all astronomical events, eclipse viewing depends on weather and local atmospheric conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
